7th joint military exercise LAMITYE 2016 began in Seychelles

LAMITYE 2016, the 7th joint military training exercise between the Indian Army and Seychelles People’s Defence Forces began on 15th February 2016.

It will be a Two week long exercise till 28th February 2016 and conducted at Seychelles Defence Academy in Victoria, Seychelles.
Features of Exercise LAMITYE 2016

• Lamitye, which means friendship in Creole dialect, will be conducted with the aim of enhancing military co-operation & interoperability between the both countries.

• LAMITYE 2016 is the Seventh biannual exercise since its inception in 2001.

• In 2016 exercise, the Indian contingent will comprise of an Infantry platoon & representatives from the Special Forces.

• The SPDF will be represented by the 20 personnel from Tazar (Special Forces Unit) and 32 from Seychelles Infantry.

• The concluding phase of the exercise will incorporate a tactical exercise will be witnessed by senior military officers from both the countries.

Brahmos supersonic land attack missile successfully test fired by Indian Army

Successfully test fire of Brahmos supersonic land attack cruise missile took place at Pokhran in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan .


Test: This test fire was held under the observation of Indian Army and Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). It was test fired from an Autonomous Mobile Launcher (AML) in full configuration and met all the mission objectives.


About Brahmos supersonic land attack missile


This missile is having the capability of destroying surface-based targets by evading enemy air defence system by flying a combined high-low trajectory.


DRDO of India and NPO Mashinostroyeniya (NPOM) of Russia jointly designed and developed Brahmos Missile. The name Brahmos has been obtained from the Brahmaputra river of India and the Moskva of Russia.


Features: It can be launched from land ,sea and air against sea and land targets. It can hit the target within a range of 300-km and having a top supersonic speed of Mach 2.8.
