Outcomes of 13th India-European Union Summit

13th edition of India-European Union Summit was held on in Brussels, capital of Belgium. PM Narendra Modi represented Indian side in the summit. While the European Union (EU) was represented by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. The 13th summit laid out concrete priority actions for the strategic bilateral partnership in areas like trade and investment, climate, energy, water & migration in the next 5 years.
Key Outcomes:

EU-India Agenda for Action 2020: Both sides endorsed the agenda to concrete the road map for the EU-India Strategic Partnership for the next 5 years. EU-India Broad-based Trade & Investment Agreement (BTIA): Both sides agreed to further the negotiations on early conclusion of the BTIA.

Terrorism: Both sides adopted a Joint Declaration on Counter terrorism to step up co-operation to counter radicalisation and violent extremism. It will also allow jointly countering the flow of sources of terrorist financing, Foreign Terrorist Fighters and arms supply.
Loan assistance to Lucknow Metro:

The European Investment Bank agreed to lend loan of 450 million Euros for the construction of the 1st metro line in Lucknow.

G20 Skills Strategy: Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implement G20 Skills Strategy and also expressed their intention to organise a high level skills seminar.

India-EU Water Partnership: The Joint Declaration was adopted in this regard to enhance co-operation on environment issues, including on the ‘Clean Ganga’ and ‘clean india’ flagship programmes.

India-European Union Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement: Both sides agreed to extend this agreement until 2020 to boost innovation and research in India & Europe.

Common Agenda on Migration & Mobility: Both sides agreed to establish this agenda in order to enhance involvement of citizens’ in the strategic partnership.

Arbitration procedure on the Italian Marines: Both sides expressed their confidence in solving the marine case currently underway in the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

PM Narendra Modi launches Kisan Suvidha Mobile Application

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Kisan Suvidha mobile application for farmers to provide agricultural relevant basic information quickly. Kisan Suvidha is an omnibus mobile app that will provide basic information on subjects such as market prices, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, weather & agriculture machinery.
Key Features:

The app has a simple interface and the information will be available in Hindi & English. It will provide information on 5 critical parameters weather, market price, input dealers, plant protection and expert advisories. To begin with, a farmer has to register the mobile number, choose a language and also must enter details of the state, district & block or sub-district.
Weather section:

It will show details of humidity, temperature, wind and rainfall for the current day and the forecast for the next 5 days. Additionally, a farmer will be also provided with the extreme weather alerts like hailstorms and unseasonal rains.

Market price section: It will show latest price of all crops traded in a registered agriculture market and mandi of the particular district.

Plant protection section: It will give pest, weed and disease related information as well as management practices for each stage of crop development from nursery to harvesting.

Agro advisory section: It will show messages for farmers from district agriculture officials & state universities in their local language.
Kisan call centre:

The app also directly connects the farmer with the Kisan call centre where technical graduates answer their queries.

India and Nepal ink 7 Agreements

India & Nepal have signed 7 agreements for co-operation in various fields. These agreements were signed at a summit meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his visiting Nepali counter part KP Sharma Oli in New Delhi. This is the 1st official foreign visit of K.P. Sharma Oli after he became Prime Minister of Nepal.

Signed Agreements are:

• MoU on Post earth quake re-construction assistance:
  
  It deals with utilization of US 250 million dollars Grant component India’s Assistance package for Post earthquake reconstruction assistance of Nepal.


• MoU on strengthening of road infrastructure in Nepal:
  
  It will enable speedy implementation of remaining work on 17 Roads in Terai area of Nepal.


• MoU in the field of performing arts:
  
  Singed between Nepal Academy of Music and Drama & Sangeet Natak Academy. It aims to enhance relations in the field of performing arts between both countries.


• Letters of Exchange on Transit Routes:
  
  (i) Operationalization of Vishakhapatnam Port. (ii) Transit between Nepal and Bangladesh through Kakarbitta-Banglabandh corridor.


• Letters of Exchange on Rail Transport:
  
  (i) Rail transit facility through Singhabad for Nepal’s Trade with Bangladesh. (ii) Rail transport to and from Vishakhapatnam.


• Inauguration of Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar transmission line:
  
  Initial supply of 80 MW from Nepal to India. It will be later augmented to 200 MW by October 2016 & 600 MW by December 2017.


• Establishment of Eminent Persons Group (EPG):
  
  It will comprise Eight members with each country nominating Four members. Its mandate would be to review bilateral relations and recommend measures including institutional frameworks in order to enhance bilateral ties.

India and Nepal ink 7 Agreements

PM Narendra Modi has inaugurates Make in India Centre in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been inaugurated the Make in India Centre at MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai, Maharashtra. On this occasion, Finland Prime Minister Juha Petri Sipilä & Sweden Prime Minister Kjell Löfven were also present along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated the ‘Make in India’ Week at NSCI, Worli where he addressed a gathering delegates comprising senior leaders and captains of industry from both India & abroad. Make in India Week is the flagship event that seeks to provide greater momentum to the Make in India initiative and to promote India as a preferred manufacturing destination globally. In this event, government delegations from 49 countries and business delegations from 68 countries are going attend it.

Union Cabinet approves Policy on Promotion of City Compost

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval to Policy on Promotion of City Compost.This policy will help in circulating compost produced from city waste for the purpose of farming & agriculture.
Key features of Policy:

• For increasing production & consumption of City Compost, provision for Market development assistance of Rs. 1500 per tonne of city compost has been added.


• Farmers will be benefitted from lower MRP of city compost as result of Market development assistance. To ensure that environment friendly quality city compost, eco Mark standard has been made mandatory.


• Fertilizer companies will co-market City Compost along with chemical fertilizers. For promoting the use of compost, these companies will adopt villages.


• It will be mandatory for public Sector undertakings and Government Departments to use City Compost for purpose of their horticulture.


• Concerned Ministries will undertake campaigns to create awareness amoung farmer about benefits of city compost and its uses.


• Agriculture Universities and other departments will also contribute in demonstration activities related to use of City compost.


• In the initial phase, promotion and marketing of city compost will be done through the existing fertilizer companies.


• But later, it will be done by the compost manufacturers and other marketing entities after the approval from Department of Fertilisers.


• Benefits Composting is process of recycling of organic matter or waste into useful fertilizers for soil. Compost obtained from city garbage will provide primary as well as secondary nutrients to soil improving its productivity.


• It will play pivotal role municipal waste management especially keeping the city clean and also generate revenue from the waste.


• It will also generate employment in urban areas as compare the rural areas. Prevent the production of harmful greenhouse gases (GHGs) especially methane (CH4) and toxic material. Thus, keeping environment and groundwater clean.

Union Cabinet approves Policy on Promotion of City Compost

Mobile manufacturing facility in Tirupati has been inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi

Foundation stone of Shri Venkateswara Mobile and Electronics Manufacturing Hub in Tirupati,had been laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Andhra Pradesh.This unit will be established under PM Narendra Modi Maki in India Initiative. Foxconn has started its operations for manufacturing brands such as Xiaomi and Gionee which is world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronics already .

Other Mobile brands can also join hands with this Facility.This Facility is  expected to provide more than 10,000 jobs within a year. Fast Track Task Force (FTTF)  has also been established to promote mobile handset manufacturing eco-system in India by Union Government of India.
