On 16 October 2015 China and Indonesia signed a 5.5 billion US dollars deal to build the maiden high-speed railway in Indonesia following the triumph of Beijing in winning the construction project by winning over Tokyo.
Japan was long expected to build the railway but China moved into the contest in 2015 to win it, and Tokyo’s bid was rejected in September 201 5 after a chaotic bidding process that inflame the Japanese companies.
The project will be implemented by a consortium of Indonesian state companies and state-owned China Railway International.To form a joint venture to build the railway the chairman of state-owned China Railway International, Yang Zhongmin, signed a deal with a consortium of Indonesian state companies.
