India’s First Lady Suvra Mukherjee, wife the of President Pranab Mukherjee, passed away on 18 August 2015. Suvra Mukherjee was 74.
She was born on 17 September 1940 in Jessore state in Bangladesh.In 1957 Suvra Mukherjee was married to Pranab Mukherjee. She was a vocalist of Rabindra Sangeet.
Suvra Mukherjee was the founder of the Geetanjali Troupe to propagate Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy.For many years, Suvra Mukherjee performed in the poetic dance and dramas in different parts of India and across over the countries i.e. Europe, Asia and Africa.
Suvra Mukherjee had also written 2 books Chokher Aloey “personal account of her close interaction with the former PM Indira Gandhi” and Chena Achenai Chin (a travelogue recounting her visit to China).
