Allahabad High Court celebrates its 150th foundation year

On 14th March 2016 the Allahabad High Court celebrated its 150th foundation day . President Pranab Mukherjee was the Chief Guest of the celebrations. Chief Justice of India TS Thakur & Union Law Minister DV Sadananda Gowda were some of the dignitaries who attended the function. On this occasion, Chief Justice of India TS Thakur dedicated digitization centre of Allahabad High court. Reserve bank of India also released a TEN rupees coin. Postal department released a postage stamp and a Souvenir of the High court.


About Allahabad High Court:


  • Allahabad High Court was established in 1866 after seat was shifted from Agra to Allahabad in 1869. It had replaced old Sadr Diwani Adalat.

  • At that time, it was known as the High Court of Judicature for the North-Western Provinces and was renamed as Allahabad High Court in 1919. It is one of the 1st high courts to be established in India.

  • It is 4th-oldest High Court in India after Calcutta, Madras & Bombay established under Indian High Courts Act 1861.

  • Currently it is the highest judicial body of the Uttar Pradesh and it has also a bench in Lucknow. Several political and the other legal luminaries were part of this historic court.
