Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa nations has signed Moscow Declaration for cooperation in addressing routine regional and global socio-economic challenges by exploiting science, technology and innovation (STI).


At third meeting of the BRICS ambassadors for Science, Technology and Innovation ,it was signed.This meeting was held in moscow.Union Minister for Science & Technology’s Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, led Indian delegation to this meeting.

EU’s Sakharov Prize 2015 goes to Raif Badawi

European Union’s prestigious Sakharov Prize  goes to Saudi blogger Raif Badawi for human rights for year 2015. As a symbol of the fight for freedom of speech, European Parliament assembly in Strasbourg, France has honoured Mr. Bidawi with this award.


Raif Badawi, recieved and international fame when he was the author of the website Free Saudi Liberals and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. For insulting Muslim clerics, he also faced 1,000 lashes in Saudi Arabia.


He was along with the Assassinated Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov and Venezuelan opposition movement Mesa de la Unidad Democratica , for this year’s edition prize.

IPC Athletics World Championships: Amit Kumar won silver in men"s club throw F51 event

On 28 October 2015 Amit Kumar Saroha an Indian para-athlete won silver medal in men’s club throw F51 event in the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha. With this, Amit secured his place for 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.


Amit won silver medal  with an effort of 25.44m, behind gold medalist in the championship Serbia’s Zeljko Dimitrijevic who had a throw of 26.29m. Milos Mitic of Serbia bagged the bronze in 25.40m.


In men’s javelin throw F46 event on 27 October 2015 Devendra Jhajharia had won silver .With this the 15 members indian team won 2 silvers


2015 IPC Athletics World Championships


2015 IPC Athletics World Championships was one of the last major competitions ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.  it was held in Doha, Qatar from 21 October to 31 October 2015.

In order to ease fuel crisis in the Nepal ,they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China in order to import all kinds of Petroleum products.


It was signed by Nepal Oil Corp (NOC) and China National United Oil Corporation (PetroChina) in Beijing,china to grant all kind of the petroleum products for Nepal needs.


Now China will commercially supplying petroleum to Nepal and already had agreed to contribute 1.3 million litres of petrol to Nepal.

Income-Tax Department’s  e-Sahyog pilot project to facilitate taxpayers by Union Finance Ministry has been lauched to reduce their need to physically appear before tax authorities.Arun Jaitley ,Union Finance Minister lanched this at a function held in New Delhi in line with Digital India initiative of Union Government.


Key facts about e-Sahyog project


Aims to reduce compliance cost, especially for small taxpayers and It will provide an online system to rectify mismatches in Income-tax returns.


IT Department will  initiate an end to end e-service using SMS, e-mails to inform the tay payers about the  mismatch. Tax payers can simply register themselves and then login to use this service.


They can easily get information about their mismatch issue through this online system .With this they can submit online response on their mismatch issue without having to appear before income tax authorities.

For Preservation of Written Heritage,India and France ink MoU at National Library in Kolkata

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop ,conserve and publicize written heritage had been signed between India and France at the National Library in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was signed by Bruno Racine, President of the National Library of France and  Sreya Guha, Joint Secretary (Library) in the Union Ministry of Culture.


Key facts of MoU


  • Demands development of competency, digital  co-operation, and skill-building, sharing of technical and non-technical expertise and cultural co-operation between the both countries.

  • It will assist a programme on digitization of old cultural manuscripts and documents which had begun earlier in France 7 years ago. It will also make Indian side to gain some new experiences and other high quality expertise in this field from France.

Nepal"s First Female President: Bidhya Devi Bhandari

Bidhya Devi Bhandari  a  leader of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist)-CPN-UML has been elected as first female President of Nepal.


Under new Constitution of Nepal  she  became first President and second President since Nepal became republic after abolishing the centuries-old monarchy.


Background


  • She defeated her opponent Kul Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Congress by securing 327  votes out of total 549 votes.

  • Under the country’s new Constitution announced on 20 September 2015 it was compulsory for Parliament to elect new President and Vice-President, parliament Speaker,Prime Minister and  and Deputy speaker.

Ease of Doing Business Ranking in World Bank’s 2016 rankings  ,India has been placed at 130th position among the 189 countries . In this edition of list, In the global rankings India has moved up by four spots .

  • India made improvement on this section.Among the South-Asian countries in business regulations,It has made the biggest improvement. India has made large improvements in, starting a business (155th rank) and getting electricity (70th rank).

Tianhui-1C mapping satellite of Tianhui-1 series has been launched by China

Tianhui-1C, a Tianhui-1 series third mapping satellite into its designated orbit has been successfully launched by China.


The mapping satellite was launched  from the Jiuquan launching base located in the country’s northwestern Gansu region by Long March 2D carrier rocket. It was overall Long March rockets series 215th successful launch.


The satellite was developed and produced under the sponsorship of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp (CASTC) which is China’s primary launch vehicle and satellite contractor.

Legend tennise player Amelie Mauresmo inducted in International Tennis Hall of Fame

France`s tennis player Amelie Mauresmo was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Amelie Mauresmo is a 2 time Grand Slam winner . Australian Open (2006) & Wimbledon (2006). Amelie Mauresmo is also former world number one and had spent a total of 39 weeks atop in the rankings in 2004 & 2006. Amelie also had won a Silver Medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics games. She is 3rd French women tennis player to win a Grand Slam title in the Open-Era. Others are Mary Pierce and Marion Bartoli. Her professional tennis career spanned more than 15 years and had officially retired from in December 2009.

Since June 2014, Amelie Mauresmo is coaching Andy Murray. Besides Amelie Mauresmo, Six time Paralympic medallist David Hall of Australia was also induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

National Career Counselling portal launched by the Government

The Union Government has been launched National Career Counselling Portal in a bid to innovated all government run employment exchanges. NCS was launched by the India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the protection of National Career Service (NCS) project of Union Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. The NCS web portal will be a one-stop platform for the both job providers or job seekers where registration can be done online. It will provide basic platform for searching & applying for jobs on the portal. It will also provides to candidates career related counseling either by its helpline numbers or visiting these centres along with other facilities like job- posting, aptitude-assessment, job-matching, training-providers, skill courses & guidance on self employment and entrepreneurship.

A New fish species discovered in Kerala

A new species of cyprinid freshwater fish named Puntius Dolichopterus has been discovered in Kerala. It was discovered by the Mathews Plamoottil, head of the department of zoology in Baby John Memorial Government College of Kollam district kerala.
Facts about Puntius Dolichopterus:


  •  Named after 2 Greek words ‘dolikhos’ meaning elongated & ‘pteron’ meaning wing or fin.

  • The fish has been included in the fish family Cyprinidae.

Characteristics:


  • It has elongated pectoral fin & shorter dorsal fin.

  • It also has unusually elongated dorsal spine which is rigid, strong and long or has longer head.

  • It has lesser number of lateral line scales and pre-dorsal scales. Its body is silvery, pectoral and anal fin greenish yellow or dorsal fin is light orange red. Its ventral fin yellow while the caudal fin dusky and an unmarked dusky spot present on scales.

Habitat:


found in small and shallow water channels. It is edible and can be utilised as ornamental fish.

ISRO successfully test Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III rocket engine

ISRO has successfully test fired Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark III project’s high thrust cryogenic rocket engine. It is India’s1st indigenously designed & developed high thrust cryogenic rocket engine capable of generating a nominal thrust of 19 tonnes.

Test:

It was conducted at ISRO’s Propulsion Complex at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu for 800 seconds time frame which produces 25% more thrust than the burn duration of the engine during flight. The test meet all its parameters.
About high-thrust cryogenic rocket engine:

The engine operates on Gas Generator Cycle. It uses extremely low temperature propellants such as Liquid Hydrogen at -2530 C and Liquid Oxygen at -1930 C. Integration and assembly of the engine and its testing were carried out in ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), a unit of ISRO.


Applications :


This high-thrust cryogenic rocket engine will used to power Cryogenic stage (C25) i.e. the upper stage of the next generation GSLV Mk-III rockets. The rockets are aimed at carrying four-tonne payloads, including future manned missions. This successful test will help ISRO to master this complex, high-performance cryogenic propulsion technology which will further help in building self-reliance for the Indian space programme

The New Development Bank (NDB) created by the Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa (BRICS) nations formally started its operations from its main headquarters in Shanghai(China). Chinese Finance Minister Lou Jiwei, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong and the bank’s 1st President K V Kamath from India attended the opening ceremony.
About the NDB:

Agreement for establishing NDB was signed during the sixth BRICS Summit being held in Fortaleza, Brazil in April, 2014.It was formally launched at the 7th BRICS summit held in Ufa, Russia in July 2015.
Purpose:

To fund infrastructure projects in the emerging economies. It is seen as an alternative institute to west dominated World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Capital:

It will have initial capital of US 50 billion dollars and will be raised to US 100 billion dollars within the next couple of years.

Each members role:

They will have an equal say in the bank’s management, regardless of GDP size and contribute an equal share in establishing a startup capital.
President:

Eminent banker Kundapur Vaman Kamath from India is President of Bank for the first 5 years i.e. till 2020.

Facts about the Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan:


Objective:

Building a culture of food safety in the country. It will ensure the safe food to consumers apart from providing them Food security in order to address the food requirements. Initiated under the brand name of JAGO GRAHAK JAGO, which is mass awareness campaign which creates awareness of consumer rights or demands.
Planned by: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) along with the Consumer Organization VOICE & National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI).
Initiatives: Under this public-campaign various awareness programmes will be under taken across the country.It will include hygiene and sanitation for safe food, informative sessions on cleaning, walkathons & awareness by information dissemination through media programmes for consumers and street food industries.


Apart from this, the minister also launched website and a logo of the Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan and also signed a pledge for a adopting safe food practices.

14 States, Union Territories achieve literacy rate of 80%

Union Government has announced that 14 States & Union Territories (UTs) have achieved or exceeded the literacy rate of 80%. It was announced by the Union Human Resource Development(UHRD) Minister Smriti Irani in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
14 States & Union Territories are:


Kerala, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Daman or Diu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, NCR of Delhi, Chandigarh, Puducherry, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim &Tamil Nadu. The Union Government’s flagship scheme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has helped to improve the literacy rate. For implementing the scheme, Centre has helped the States and Union Territories. The literacy of adults has been covered under the Saakshar Bharat Programme. It was also announced that TEN States and Union Territories have also been able to reduce gender gap to 10% or less. These states are Punjab, Chandigarh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Goa, Lakshadweep, Kerala , Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Puducherry to get Smart city nomination

Puducherry city has the first nomination to be received by the Urban Development Ministry for a Smart City Mission. In this regard, Govt. of Union Territory of Puducherry has nominated its capital city for addition in the Union Government’s flagship 100 Smart Cities Mission. It also has forwarded the nomination along with all the forms & documents as required in the Stage-1 of ‘City Challenge’ competition. The nominations has also include the details of evaluation of all the Five urban local bodies (ULBs) Puducherry, Kariakal, Oulgaret, Mahe & Yanam.The nomination was forwarded based on the recommendations of the High Powered Steering Committee (HPSC) constituted as per the uiderlines of mission. It was headed by the Chief Secretary of UT and had over-seen the process of 1st stage intra state competition. For each state and UTs slots assigned for the Smart City are as per the criteria based on equal weightage for urban population and number of ULBs and the geographical equity.
Facts about Stage-1 evaluation criteria of Puducherry:


  • Puducherry has a population of 6.5 lakh has scored 75 of the possible 100 marks in Stage-1 evaluation criteria.

  • Since 2011, Puducherry Municipal Corporation (PM) has achieved 18% improvement in provision of household sanitary latrines.

  • Internal revenue generation has continuously increased by 14% over the past 3 year period of 2012-13 to 2014-15.

  • It has met 23% of its capital expenditure from internal resources. It also has met about 80% operation & maintenance costs of water supply through user charges.

India earns about 100 million US dollars by launching 45 commercial foreign satellites

India has earned about US 100 million dollars by launching the 45 commercial foreign satellites from 19 countries. The income was earned by Antrix, the commercial branch of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).This information was given by the Union Science & Technology Minister Jitendra Singh in a written reply in the Lok-Sabha. It was also announced this revenue from the commercial space missions will further grow with launch of 28 foreign satellites between 2015 & 2017. In this regard Antrix has signed agreements with 6 countries . Algeria, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Singapore and US. Apart from this, the minister also informed that ISRO has launched 72 indigenous satellites from Satish Dhawan space centre, Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh(AP) using indigenous launch vehicles. Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). In addition, ISRO also has successfully launched 4 micro & nano satellites built by students of Indian universities. In future 6 indigenous satellites are also to be launched by Mach 2016.

United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) has named Conakry.The Capital city of the Republic of Guinea as the World Book Capital for year 2017. With this selection Conakry become the 17th city in the World to be designated as World Book Capital. At present, Incheon city of South Korea is World Book Capital for year 2015.
About World Book:

Capital It is a designation bestowed by UNESCO to a particular city every year since 2001. It Seeks to promote books and reading and the dedication of all players in the book industry. The designation runs for 1 year starting from UNESCO’s World Book and Copyright Day (April 23) till April 22 of the following year. Madrid, capital of Spain in 2001 was the 1st city to be recognised as World Book Capital. In case of India, New Delhi was recognised as World Book Capital in 2003.

On 22 July 2015 10-year old Shubham Jaglan has won the IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf event in Las Vegas.Shubham Jaglan is the son of a milkman from rural area Haryana, India.


He shot a 3 round score of 106 winning by a 5-stroke margin, ahead of 2 Americans Justin Dang and Sihan Sandhu or Thailand’s Pongsapak Laopakdee for the Boys 9-10 years category title.


He also scripted a scintillating 1-stroke win at the Junior World Golf Championship.

National Broadcasting Day observed on 23 july

July 23rd is observed as National Broadcasting day. On this day in 1927, Indian Broadcasting Company (IBC) started organized radio broadcasting from Bombay station. To mark the occasion, All India Radio (AIR) had organized a meeting on the subject Creation of New India & Broadcasting Medium in New Delhi.


Radio Broadcasting in India:


In India, radio broadcasting began during the British rule in year of 1923 under the fake of the Radio Club of Bombay. Later in 1927, the IBC which was a private entity was granted permission by British Government to operate 2 radio stations in Mumbai (known as Bombay) and Kolkata (known as Calcutta). Since then it has gained huge popularity and had changed the socio economic life of people. In 1930, British Government took over radio broadcasting and started the Indian State Broadcasting Service. Later it was changed to All India Radio (AIR) in 1936 & Akashwani in 1957.
Present Scenario:

Today, AIR is one of largest public broadcasting organisations in the world. It is largest in terms of the spectrum of socio economic, the number of languages of broadcasts and cultural change it serves. AIR service now comprises around 414 stations located across the country with reach to the 99.19% of the total population and 92% of the country’s area in 23 languages and 146 language.

Prof.Richard hay hails from Kerala. Presently, he teaches economics in various academic institutes in India as well as abroad.
George Baker:

George hails from West Bengal and is actor by profession. Since 1970s, he has acted in several Assamese or Bengali movies. His famous film was ‘Chameli Memsaab’ which had won the national film award in 1975. Presently, he is member of Bhartiya Janta Party.george had unsuccessfully contested for 2014 Lok-Sabha election on BJP ticket from Howrah in West Bengal after he had joined the BJP in 2014.
Article 331:

Representation of the Anglo-Indian Community in Lok-Sabha It says that President may appoint 2 members from Anglo-Indian Community to the Lok Sabha, if in his opinion that this community is not represented completly,not with standing anything mentioned in Article 81 which deals with the Composition of Lok-Sabha.In Article 81 (1) which was inserted by the 35th Constitutional Amendment Act, says that subject to Article 331, Lok Sabha shall consists of 530 directly elected representatives from states and 20 directly elected representatives from Union Territories.Thus, the total strength of Lok-Sabha is 552 including Two members of Anglo-Indian Community.

Article 366(2) of the Indian Constitution defines Anglo-Indian as a person who is occupant within the territory of India, whose father or any of his other male progenitors are in the male line are of European descent.

It should be noted that this acquisition creates the Fifth largest portfolio of Abbreviated New Drug Application filings with the US Food and Drug Administration. Gavis Pharmaceuticals is based in New Jersey and specialises in development, manufacturing, sales, marketing, packaging & distribution of around 101 pharmaceuticals products. It has recorded sales of $96 million in 2013-14 and has over 250 employees.

He won this title after he lifted a total of 1,383 pounds in the junior title Championship which was held at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las-Vegas. In this championship,Amitoj Chhabra had squatted 485 pounds, bench pressed 325 and had dead lifted 573.Amitoj is son of a Punjabi father and a Nepali mother. He had started powerlifting in 2013 and began competing at various championships in May 2014. Presently, Amitoj is under-going Adam Lauritzen of Silverback Strength & Conditioning in Reno. He also holds Seven Nevada state powerlifting records of which 3 are in the 18-19 age category. Now, Amitoj is also competing in the 20-23 age category, where he still holds the same records.

KFC partners with IRCTC to launch a delivery system on trains

KFC and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp.(IRCTC) have entered into partnership to launch a delivery system for passengers on trains. Under the e-catering service initiatives passengers now can place order for KFC meal while booking tickets through the IRTC website.This service is presently available only on 12 trains passing through the New Delhi railway station and will later expand to Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam & Bengaluru stations.

The former chairman of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), launched a trust that aims to address challenges faced by non executive especially independent directors on companies board directors on 22 July. The idea behind the Non Executive Directors in Conversation is to promote discussions among non executive directors and to give viable solution to the concerns faced by them.
The main issues faced by them are:

Lack of role clarity, absence of domain knowledge & increasing the liabilities under the new companies Act. This trust will be prepare them to-do justice to their role in their respective institutions who has larger multifarious responsibilities.

The Times Group buy 4 FM radio stations

The Entertainment Network India operated by The Times Group has got approval from (I&B) Ministry to acquire India Today Groups 4 FM radio station. Thus it will acquire the Oye-radio stations business own by the India Today Group in these four cities Jodhpur, Amritsar, Shimla and Patiala.

This similar deal rejected by the I&B ministry on ground that it violates FM radio guidelines and thus the said deal was held after fulfilment of conditions specified by the Ministry. It should be noted that ENIL owns and operates Radio Mirchi FM channel. Where as TV Today operates “Oye”Radio station which was launched in 2010 in 7 cities.

The Former Governor of Kerala & Bihar, Ramkrishna Suryabhan Gavai passed away in Nagpur, Maharashtra.After a prolonged illness. Ramkrishna was 86. Ramkrishna Gavai was senior Congress leader and had served as a Chairman of Maharashtra State Legislative Council form 1978 -84 and Deputy Chairman from 1968-78. He was a member of the MSLC from 1964-94. Ramkrishna was elected to Lok Sabha from Amravati constituency in 1998. In 2006,Ramkrishna Gavai was appointed as Governor of Bihar and was in office till 2008. Later in 2008 Ramkrishna was transferred to Kerala where he served till August 2011.Ramkrishna also had served as the Chairman of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, an autonomous trust which manages the Deeksha-bhoomi, the historic place where Father of Indian Constitution embraced Buddhism in 1956.Ramkrishna Gavai was recipient of National Integrity Award s for peace and harmony.

5th generation Long March carrier rocket launched by china

China has successfully tested the power system of Long March-5, a 5th generation of carrier rocket belonging to the China’s Long March family of rockets.This announcement was after Long March-5 rocket carrier, entered a runoff phase.

Facts about Long March 5th Generation:

Long March5 has the carrying capacity twice of the payload compared to other present carriers of China. It has payload capacity of 14 tonnes to geostationary transfer orbit and 25 tonnes to low Earth orbits.It will serve the final chapter in building China’s manned space stations and 3 step current program of orbiting, landing & returning lunar. Long March5 is scheduled for flight in 2016 and its capacity will be equivalent to that of mainstream carrier rockets presently used around the world.

The Union Government has launched Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in Patna(Bihar).The flagship scheme was launched by the india’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim to provide 24×7 continued electricity supply to each rural household across the country by 2022.
Facts about the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana:

The Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana It focuses on feeder separation for rural households and agricultural purpose. Seeks to strengthen the distribution and sub transmission infrastructure, including metering at all levels in the rural areas.
Major components of the new scheme:


  • Strengthening of sub-transmission & distribution network, feeder separation, Metering at all levels including at input points, feeders & distribution transformers.

  • It also seeks to strengthen Micro grid and off grid distribution network of rural electrification.
    Funds:

  • The scheme has budgetary outlay of 76,000 crore rupees for implementation of the projects of which Union Government will provide grant of 63,000 crore rupees.

  • It should be noted that, this scheme replaces Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana , which was launched by the previous UPA government led by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

  • Apart from launching this scheme, Prime Minister also Flagged off Patna Mumbai AC Suvidha Express and Rajgir-Bihar Sharif-Daniawan-Fatuha passenger train.

  • Inaugurated the Daniawan-Bihar Sharif new railway line. Inaugurated campus of Indian Institute of Technology,(IIT) Patna Campus.

India"s women wrestling team wins silver medal in Presidential Cup

Indian women’s wrestling team has won the silver medal after finishing 2nd in the 5th Senior International Wrestling Tournament. The 8 members team bagged a silver medal at the July 23-26 event that held in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana. Team members who won the matches are Vinesh (48kg), Lalita Sehrawat (55kg) & Anita (63kg) in their respective weight categories.

Sakshi Malik lost just 1 fight in 58kg division which resulted with silver medal for Indian team. For this victory, Indian team received a prize money of US 10,000 dollars along with a trophy & medals. Host country Kazakhstan won the gold medal, while Mangolia won the bronze medal.
