Ram Sevak Sharma appointed as the new Chairman of TRAI

On 27 July 2015 Ram Sevak Sharma was appointed as the Chairman of the telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).Ram Sevak succeeded Rahul Khullar.Rahul khullar had retired in May 2015.

Ram Sevak is also set to retire in September 2015 as a Secretary for Department of Electronics & Information-Technology. Ram Sevak Sharma is an former IAS officer of 1978 batch, Jharkhand Cadre.


Ram Sevak has worked as Chief Secretary of the Jharkhand government and he had also worked in the Department of Economic Affairs dealing with the bilateral & multilateral development agencies like World Bank & Asian Development Bank.


Ram Sevak sharma did his Post graduation from IIT Kanpur and Masters in Computer Science from the University of California (USA).


About Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI):

• TRAI was founded in 1997 by an Act of Parliament to regulate telecom services in India, which was introduced in wake of entry of private sector in telecom industries.

• It is an independent regulator that regulates tele-communication services it also fixes or revises the tariffs for telecom services in India.
