The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has nominated the name of Indian Tennis legend Sania Mirza for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award 2015. In this regard Union Sports Minister Sarbanada Sonowal forwarded Sania’s name for the highest honour given for achievement in sports. However, final decision will be taken by the Awards Committee.
About Sania Mirza:
Sania Mirza Born on 15 November 1986 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Presently, Sania is ranked world No. 1 in women’s tennis doubles.
Achievements:
Sania Mirza has won 2015 women’s Doubles Wimbledon Title along with her partner Martina Hingis (Switzerland). She also has won Three Grand Slam Mixed Doubles titles including the Australian Open in 2009, French Open (2012) and US Open (2014). In 2014, Sania Mirza was appointed as brand ambassador of Telangana state. Awards: Sania Mirza has awarded by the Arjuna Award in 2004 and Padma Shri in 2006.
