India and China decided to deepen bilateral defence ties and maintain peace and tranquillity at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Both countries also have decided to strengthen co-operation to fight the menace of terrorism, including at the international level. These decisions were taken in a meeting between Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Vice-Chairman of China General Fan Changlong, in New Delhi.
Key outcomes of meeting:
- India offered to share its expertise with China in fighting terrorism by way of joint exercises, among other initiatives.
- Both nations agreed to implement the consensus reached between india’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China’s President Xi Jinping in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the India-China border areas.
- Agreed to further enhance communications and exchanges between the two armed forces for maintenance of peace and tranquility.
- Both sides welcomed the operationalisation of additional border personnel meeting points and reviewed the ongoing exchanges and expressed satisfaction at the recently held bilateral military exercise ‘Hand in Hand 2015’.
