For major port’s development Union Government can spend Rs. 70,000 crore

Union Government is planning to spend  70,000 crore rupees as part of its ambitious Sagarmala project for the development of major ports .


It was announced by Union Minister for Highways ,Road Transport and Shipping at the first gathering of the National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC).


About Sagarmala project


  • In March 2015, Union ministry had given their ‘in-principle’ nod to this flagship project for port-led development in coastal States.

  • This project aims for holistic port infrastructure enlargement along the 7,500-km-long coastline through modernisation, computerisation and mechanisation.
