The former Olympic champion Sebastian Coe elected as 6th President of the International Association of Athletics Federations on 19 August 2015.British Olympian was elected as the President at the 50th International Association of Athletics Federations Congress in Beijing(China).
Coe will take office charge on 31 August 2015 after the end of the 2015. He succeeds Senegalese Lamine Diack, 82, who has led the IAAF for sixteen years.
Sebastian Coe:
• Sebastian Coe is a British politician and the former track and a field athlete.
• As a middle distance runner, Coe won 4 Olympic medals, including the 1500 metres gold medal in Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984.
• Sebastian Coe set 8 outdoor and 3 indoor world records in middle distance track events in 1979, setting 3 world records in the space of 41-days and set the world record.
He also set in the 800 metres in 1981 remained unbroken record until 1997.
• Post retirement, Sebastian Coe has became the Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party from 1992 to 1997, on 16 May 2000 he also became a Life Peer .
International Association of Athletics Federations(IAAF):
International Association of Athletics Federations(IAAF) is the international governing body for the sport of athletics.It was founded on 1912 at its 1st congress in Stockholm, Sweden by representatives from seventeen national athletics federations as the International Amateur Athletics Federation(IAAF). Since October 1993, it has been headquartered in Monaco.
