Union government has given nod to set-up of (AIIA) for imparting Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Ph.D level education in field of traditional medicine. That was announced by the Minister of State of AYUSH Ministry, Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to an unstarred question in Rajya Sabha. All India Institute of Ayurveda will be located at Sarita Vihar in New Delhi. It will be the apex institute of ayurveda with 200 bedded referral hospital for imparting post-graduate and doctoral education in the field of Ayurveda. Apart from this, it was also announced that Union Government has set up Research Councils and implemented a Central Scheme of Extramural Research. These councils seek to under-take and support research and development activities including development of drugs in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy. There are 80 units of the 4 Research Councils which are functioning across the country. They will be provided with facilities and environment for development and discovery of such drugs, which are different from classical formulations mentioned in the authoritative books.
