KISAN Project and Hailstorm App for crop damage has been launched by Union Government

Union Government launches Hailstorm App and KISAN Project for crop damage.


KISAN (Crop Insurance using Space Technology and Geoinformatics) Project to benefit farmers has been launched by Union Government .


This project will favour use of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) , satellites and other geospatial technology to collect crop yield data and to assess destruction from natural calamities.


Key facts


  • Drones will help to take high resolution images of crop assessment. It will be assembled with satellite imaging and other geospatial technology to get data accurately.

  • This data will enable crop insurance companies to provide proper recompense to affected farmers. The experiment will help to develop index-based data for insurance companies.

  • Initially this project will be executed as pilot study in identified districts in Maharashtra , Haryana, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.
