Senior Bhartiya Janata Party leader Ram Nath Kovind was appointed as Governor of Bihar on 8 August 2015. Ram Nath Kovind succeeds West Bengal Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi, who was holding additional charge of Bihar.
His appointment was confirmed by the President Pranab Mukherjee. Kovind, who had been a 2 time Rajya Sabha member between 1994 & 2006, hails from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. A lawyer by profession, Kovind had also been Bhartiya Janata Party (SC) Morcha chief.
