Preliminary survey of the place where the mortal remains of former President Dr. Kalam had been laid to rest at Rameswaram was started by a team of officials from the Central Public Works Department and Tamil Nadu government.
This decision to set up a memorial for former President Dr. APJ abdul Kalam follows the demand from many quarters to erect a memorial at the site. The memorial to highlight what Kalam had Illustrate in his lifetime would comprise a library, museum and a meditation centre.
Dr Kalam expired on 27 July 2015 at Shillong. And he was laid to rest at Peikarumbu in Rameswaram on 30 July 2015.
